Welcome to Bookaa ("we," "our," "us"). We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and protect your data.

2. Information We Collect

a. Personal Information

We collect the following types of personal information:

  • Name, email, and phone number
  • User profile information including avatar and timezone
  • Preferred language and notification preferences
  • Location data (if permitted) to show nearby service providers
  • Payment information for processing transactions

b. Usage Data

We collect data related to app interactions, such as:

  • Booking history and preferences
  • Services and providers you've favorited
  • Reviews and ratings you've submitted
  • Messages exchanged between users and service providers
  • Device information and IP address for security and analytics

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Facilitate service bookings and provider matching
  • Process payments securely via Paystack
  • Improve user experience through analytics
  • Send notifications about bookings, updates, and promotions (with consent)
  • Prevent fraud and enforce our terms
  • Personalize your experience based on preferences and history

4. Location & Notification Permissions

  • Location Data: You can choose to allow location access for better service provider recommendations. Providers also share their service area (travel radius). Alternatively, you can search by address.
  • Notifications: We request notification permission to inform you about booking status, messages, system alerts, transaction updates, and important reminders.

5. Data Retention

  • We retain your personal information for as long as you maintain an active account
  • Upon account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes
  • Booking history may be retained in anonymized form for analytics purposes

6. Payment & Commission

  • We charge a 10-15% service fee on top of the service price at checkout
  • Service providers may have individual commission rates (typically around 12%)
  • Funds are held in our Paystack account until service verification via PIN or QR code, after which payment is transferred to the provider's bank account
  • Providers must set up their banking details to receive payments

7. Verification Process

  • Users receive a verification PIN for each booking
  • Service completion is verified when the user shares this PIN with the provider who enters it in their app
  • Verification timestamps are recorded for security and dispute resolution

8. Refund Policy

Refunds for canceled bookings depend on the time before the appointment:

  • 7+ days before: 95% refund
  • 3-6 days before: 70% refund
  • 1-2 days before: 50% refund
  • 4-24 hours before: 30% refund
  • Less than 4 hours before: 10% refund
  • After appointment start: No refund

9. Service Provider & User Cancellations

  • Users and service providers can cancel bookings. Refunds will be processed as per our policy.
  • If a provider cancels, a full refund is issued to the user.
  • Cancellation reasons and timestamps are recorded.

10. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data. However, no online service is 100% secure.

11. Third-Party Services

  • We use Paystack for payment processing. Your payment details are handled securely by Paystack and are not stored by us.
  • We may use Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) and Expo for push notifications.

12. User Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data (subject to legal obligations)
  • Update your notification preferences
  • Export your data in a portable format

13. Data Sharing

We may share your information with:

  • Service providers (only the information necessary to fulfill bookings)
  • Payment processors to complete transactions
  • Legal authorities when required by law
  • We do not sell your personal data to third parties

14. Updates to Privacy Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Users will be notified of significant changes.
